WALES International Carl Fletcher, pictured, has admitted to the Argus that he would jump at the chance to move to Cardiff City, fuelling speculation that he may be set to join the club.

Fletcher, 24, whose grandmother is from Ebbw Vale, has been linked with a move to the Bluebirds since shining for Wales at the end of last season.

Fletcher started for Wales in friendlies against both Norway and Canada and he impressed alongside fellow Gwent players James Collins, Danny Gabbidon, Paul Parry and Robert Earnshaw.

Robert Page has also now joined Cardiff and Martyn Margetson is staying as Lennie Lawrence continues to build towards Sam Hammam's dream of a Welsh XI playing for Cardiff.

And in a further twist in the transfer saga Bournemouth have confirmed they may be forced to sell star man Fletcher with Cardiff, QPR and West Ham waiting in the wings.

It seems Fletcher would be keenest to join the Bluebirds, with his International career in mind.

He told the Argus: "Cardiff are a good side with a superb fan base so of course they are a great club and it would be a very attractive proposition to join them.

"In terms of my International career Cardiff City would a good option and could definitely help me to establish myself.

"James Collins has come into the Welsh set-up this season and you also have the likes of Danny Gabbidon, Robert Earnshaw and Paul Parry, so obviously Cardiff City are helping players to get involved with the international set-up.

"Mark Hughes obviously gets the chance to see the Cardiff boys quite often, which is great for all the Welsh players at Ninian Park.

"I still have another year left on my contract at Bournemouth so I am just concentrating and focusing on that at the moment, because you can't think about speculation.

"If I am told something by the club - if someone does come in for me or the club decide to move me on - then obviously things would change.

"Bournemouth have been great to me so if the club think they can benefit from selling me then I will look at any offers and consider what is best for me and the club."

Bournemouth chairman Peter Phillips has admitted that Fletcher is likely to be a transfer target for bigger clubs this summer.

He said: "There has been some talk, with his performances for Wales, of other clubs coming in and wanting to buy Carl Fletcher.

"Carl is the player we are most at risk of getting a bid for. We will not put a figure on him because we don't want to sell him, but the reality is that every player is available if a big enough offer comes in. We are no different to any other club in that respect."
