CARDIFF baseballer Chris Duffin becomes Wales' most capped player when he turns out in this season's international against England in Newport.

The Les Croupiers Caerau player will win his 17th cap, beating the great John Smith's record of 16, at Coronation Park on Saturday, July 17.

And he will be hoping Wales mark the occasion with another victory in the annual fixture they have come to dominate.

Wales won last season's international at Edinburgh Park, Liverpool, by a massive 74 runs and look to be even stronger this season.

"The team seems to have a better balance than last time," said Welsh Baseball Union fixture secretary and selector Glyn Jones.

The Welsh squad includes two Newport players in recalled St Michael's performer Norman Parselle and Alexandra Old Boys backstop Paul Canham.

It also includes two new caps in Grange Albion's Andrew Fish and last season's Welsh champions ISTL Llanrumney's Russell Martin.

Two other players recalled are last season's substitute Gary Fish, no relation to team-mate Andrew, and Stuart Cleverley, both also of of ISTL Llanrumney.

The side will be captained by David Pugh of Les Croupiers Caerau and the referee will be Gordon Griffiths of Newport.
