VISITORS of all ages enjoyed an insight into agricultural life at the Machen Agricultural Show on Saturday.

It was the 62nd Machen Show and one of the first agricultural shows to be held in South Wales this summer and all the joys and fun of rural life were celebrated.

Whether it was a day in the fresh air or the chance to find out about an agricultural way of life the show, at Mill Farm, Machen, gave judges, competitors and visitors a warm welcome.

The range of competitive events included a Kennel Club registered dog show, a goat show with classes for milkers, goatlings, kids and a new section for pigmies.

Animal lovers got the chance to see animals close up in a special children's corner, along with marquees housing rabbits and caged birds.

In the four show rings there were horse and pony classes, working hunter ponies, coloured Shetlands and side saddle displays.

The more unusual events at the show included a ferret and terrier race.

There was something for everyone, from the seasoned visitor to those attending for the first time.

The show was not just about competitive events and this year they had falconry displays, vintage agricultural machinery and trade stands.

To keep the whole family entertained there were crafts stalls, a fairground and children's races.
