A VAUXHALL van dressed in the exciting livery of VXR, the new performance brand from Vauxhall, drew the crowds - and raised eyebrows - at The Sunday Times Motor Show Live.

The Luton-built Vivaro double cab, with red and grey soft leather seats for six, and stacks of cargo space, three cubic metres in fact, was created as a styling exercise, and it looks and feels like no other van. It has been specified to a very high standard and features the very best of everything, from hand sewn leather seats to the smart alloy wheels, front fog lamps, bold VXR flame red paintwork and exclusive VXR decals.

The big difference with this concept is that it features much more besides. Externally it is kitted out with body colour bumpers with a neat black rubbing strip to accentuate the colour, eye-catching chrome side bars, a rear roof spoiler, and double chrome exhausts. But the treatment doesn't stop there, because inside things get a whole lot more interesting.

In the load bay there's a full polypropylene lining kit - easy to clean and lightweight - and a wooden floor, making the Vivaro concept ideal for most applications. Moving forward, the cabin features electric windows, air conditioning, solar reflective windscreen, ultrasonic alarm system and uprooted stereo radio/CD player/satellite navigation system - as well as a stack of extras, unique to the concept van. Although these concept modifications are not yet intended to be available as options, Vauxhall is keeping an open mind as to whether they'll feature on the extras list in years to come.
