SEAT UK has revealed the pricing and specification of its new Altea at the Sunday Times Motor Show Live in Birmingham, where the car is having its UK public debut.

The eight model Altea range of spacious and versatile, five-seat, five-door family cars goes on sale in July. Already acclaimed for its striking styling and innovative touches such as the windscreen wipers concealed in the A-pillars, it will be available in three trim levels, a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines and feature five and six-speed manual, Tiptronic and DSG gearboxes. Prices will start at £12,850 for the Altea 1.6 Reference rising to £17,600 for the Altea Sport 2.0 TDi with DSG gearbox.

The Altea Reference has a choice of 1.6-litre petrol or 1.9-litre turbo diesel engines developing 102PS and 105PS power output respectively and both have a five-speed manual gearbox. Standard equipment on Reference models includes six airbags, (front, side and curtain), air conditioning, ABS, TCS, electro-mechanical power steering, six-speaker radio/CD, electric front windows, remote central locking and a driver's seat with height and lumbar adjustment. The 1.9 TDi Reference is priced at £14,000.

Prices are also announced for the eagerly awaited Ibiza Cupra. For the first time in a Seat Sport-built Cupra, there will be a choice of petrol or diesel engines. The Ibiza Cupra TDi is available to order from Seat dealers now at £16,000 on the road. On the outside it bears all the visible hallmarks of Seat Sport: aggressive body styling, honeycomb mesh grilles, lowered suspension, low profile tyres on 17-inch alloy wheels which reveal the brakes, and the word CUPRA badged across the tailgate.

The interior has received the same sporty treatment with sports seats all round, white instrument dials and all-black trim with just a few red highlights in the stitching and badging. Under the bonnet the 1.9-litre TDi unit has been tuned by Seat Sport to 160PS making it the most powerful diesel in its class and delivering a top speed of 137mph and 0-62 in 7.6 seconds.
