IT'S not a day out you would normally look forward to - but Newport crown court is throwing its doors open to the public.
Among the attractions at the court next Saturday will be a mock trial and visits the cells, and police, the Crown Prosecution Service and Gwent Probation will also be on hand to give an insight into their work.
Judge John Griffith Williams, the Recorder of Cardiff, will preside over the trials, and youngsters can play the parts of witnesses, defendants and jurors.
And there will be an Argus-sponsored competition to find the best court reporter aged under 18. The aim of the day is to foster an interest in and a better understanding of the criminal justice system.
The open day, which is aimed at all ages, from primary school children to adults, will be held between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
