World title challenger Byron Mitchell has promised to beat Gwent's super-middleweight king Joe Calzaghe (pictured) on June 28 at the Cardiff International Arena - and then go on to avenge his defeat to the Welshman's rival, Sven Ottke.

The tough-talking two-time world champion from Alabama believes he has the tools to beat the WBO world champion and then take on the elusive German who Calzaghe has been trying to lure into the ring.

"Calzaghe is a stepping stone to a rematch with Ottke. I have seen nothing that Calzaghe has to offer that worries me and am looking forward to our fight on June 28.

"Ottke is the main target as we have unfinished business to settle," said Mitchell.

The 29-year-old challenger lost his WBA crown in March this year when he went to fight Ottke in his backyard, but believes he should have got the decision.

"I did enough against Ottke to win the fight in my eyes. If the fight had been on US soil there is no doubt I would have got the decision.

"Coming to Britain to fight Calzaghe for his title does not worry me.

"As well as Germany, I have also fought in France for the world title against Bruno Girard and lost on the scorecards there which I also believe I won.

"I am a fighter and I am prepared to fight in the champion's hometown."

Mitchell, the IBF No 6 and WBO No 9 ranked contender, believes Calzaghe has an amateur style and will expose him on the night.

"I have only seen one of Calzaghe's fights and that was against Tocker Pudwill and that is all I need to see of him. I think he has a very amateur style and slaps and I will expose him.

"I have operated in a higher level of class than him and that will be the important factor on the night."

The 'Slama from Bama', who has 18 KOs in 25 fights, added: "I'm not going to predict whether it will be a win by KO or on points but it will be a Mitchell victory."
