PONTYPOOL will face Fiji for the first time in the club's illustrious history on November 4 at Pontypool Park.

The fixture is a massive coup for the club and thanks largely to the negotiations of club benefactor Bob Jude who has strong connections with the South Sea sides.

Fiji face Wales that same week at the Millennium Stadium and will use the match against Pontypool as preparation for that big game.

Rumours had been rife that the Fijians would play Cardiff as a warm-up game before their Millennium Stadium date.

But Pontypool have slipped in under the opposition's noses to scoop the big fixture, the first time they have played a full touring side since facing New Zealand in 1989.

"This proves once again that, on a world scale, Pontypool is recognised as one of the world's biggest and best clubs," said Jude.

Pontypool have a proud record against international opposition with many fans remembering their exploits against the All Blacks at the Park 13 years ago. They also played the Tongan Barbarians last year.

This is the first time they have faced the Fijians though and its a game that's sure to pack fans into the Park for another memorable match.
