KING of the skiffle frontier, Lonnie 'My Old Man's A Dustman' Donegan, plays Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon tomorrow night.
Born Anthony Donegan in Glasgow in 1931 he learnt guitar and how to sing, and played in Ken Colyer's group and in Chris Barber's Jazz band in the 1950s.
He changed his name to Lonnie partly out of respect for bluesman Lonnie Johnson and it was the musical legacy of artists such as, Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie that led him to develop skiffle.
Between sets he would play onstage using a washboard, a tea chest bass and a cheap Spanish guitar. Skiffle was born. 51 years later Lonnie's still playing. lTickets are £16.50. Dial 01874 611622 for more information.
