GLAD to be back -- that is the message from back row forward Joe Powell, who is back with Newport on a one-year contract.

Newport have also signed prolific try scoring Bristol wing Luke Nabaro on a one-year loan deal.

Powell left Newport in the summer because he was not getting sufficient senior rugby and he wanted a change.

But it has been much the same situation at Swansea, and with Alix Popham leaving there is an opportunity for Powell at Newport again.

"I'm glad to be back at Newport, it's been difficult travelling to Swansea where they train morning and afternoon which meant I was away from home 12 hours a day," said Powell.

"They didn't seem to know whether they wanted me as a second row or back row either.

"I enjoyed being at Newport and am more than happy to be back. I'm looking forward to playing again and with Alix going there's a chance for me."

Nabaro, 26, is a signing out of the blue for Newport and played in the United fixture between the sides last week.

He has just returned from a knee injury, but had scored 26 tries in 33 appearances for Bristol.

He is a Hong Kong international, but British qualified having married a Bristol girl.

Newport coach Leigh Jones said: "I was disappointed with Joe's decision to leave and I'm delighted he's returned, he's a natural replacement for Alix Popham.

"We were very impressed with Luke's power and pace and it was too good an opportunity to miss with our injuries."

Bristol head coach Peter Thorburn said: "I'm very positive about it because it's good for Luke, he's on loan and I know Newport have got a few injuries.

"We're not playing Newport in any competitions so it's a good arrangement. He's very physical and very dexterous on his feet."
