WORLD champ Joe Calzaghe admitted today that the destruction of his famous old Newbridge gym will take a while to "sink in".

Bulldozers moved in this morning to crush the shack where Calzaghe has trained with his father Enzo since he was eight.

The local council ruled the tin-sheet shed was dangerous and found a new training centre in nearby Cwmcarn where the next generation of Calzaghes will be able to train.

WBO super-middleweight king Calzaghe, who is eyeing up a 12th title defence, said today: "It hasn't all sunk. It will feel really weird when I drive past and it's not there. But I'll finish boxing in two or three years and it will be great to know that kids will now have the opportunity to accomplish what I have at the new gym."
