A PENSIONER was injured when a car collided with the bus she was travelling on.

The car driver then drove off without stopping.

The 78-year-old woman was sent sprawling out of her seat by the impact.

She needed hospital treatment for head and facial injuries, but was not seriously hurt. None of the other six passengers on the bus was injured.

But bus driver Kelvin Gibbs told the Argus the crash was an accident waiting to happen and warned: Sooner or later someone will be killed."

Now police are appealing for anyone who saw the crash in Fleur-de-Lys High Street to contact them.

It happened just after 3pm yesterday as an Islwyn Borough Transport bus headed to the Blackwood depot.

A dark-coloured car was in collision with the bus, then drove off towards Pengam. The impact ripped off the front right hand side of the bus spoiler and indicator.

Bus driver Mr Gibbs added: I didnt get to see the damage on the car but those people are lucky to be alive. I think they were just trying to beat the bus it is something you see everyday in this job.

Mr Gibbs added: It is the elderly passenger I feel sorry for. She was banged about all because they couldnt wait a minute. She came flying down the aisle and really hurt herself. It would have been hard for a man to hold himself up in a situation like that but for an elderly lady it was impossible.

Sergeant George Fleri of Blackwood police said: The bus was heading towards Ystrad Mynach and it appears that there has been a fail to stop accident involving a black saloon car which came out of the community centre car park.

Two people were arrested after the incident. Sergeant Fleri asked witnesses to contact Blackwood police on 01495 223673.
