TONY Willcox is busy scouring the non-league scene frantically searching for experienced players to strengthen his Cwmbran Town squad.

The Crows boss is leaving no stone unturned in his quest, which he believes will substantially assist the wealth of youngsters at Cwmbran Stadium.

Town were going great guns in the League of Wales last year, until February when a serious dip in form derailed their title ambitions and subsequently ended any chance of them clinching a European spot.

And Willcox believes a bigger sprinkling of experienced players would have had the 'know how' and 'knowledge' to hold onto wins or draws in certain matches.

"There is always room for improvement in our squad," said the Cwmbran manager. "And adding one or two experienced players to the squad is one of my priorities in the pre-season.

"We have got some good young players in our squad and have youngsters coming through our youth system that need a little bit of guidance on the field.

"It's a case of getting the right balance. The experienced players can pass on their know how and knowledge when we are up against it."

Willcox would not commit to which areas of his squad he wanted to boost - but the defence is one position of Cwmbran's squad that certainly needs bolstering.

Town have already snapped up Llanelli defender Gareth Warton, 22, as well as Ton Pentre 'keeper Marty Ellacott. While Jody Jenkins returns from a spell with TNS and Chris Summers re-signs from Haverfordwest County.
