OLYMPIC and World 200m Champion Kostas Kenteris says the only sprinter who threatens him is Newport's Christian Malcolm with the pair set to lock horns later this summer.

Malcolm is in action today at the Aqua-Pura International in Loughborough running for Wales, but he has the 25-year-old Greek worried about the young pretender to his World and Olympic crowns.

Having finished fifth to Kenteris' gold in the Sydney 2000 200m final, Malcolm went to the World Championships in Edmonton last summer and blazed his way into the final, running a personal best of 20.08secs in the process, only to finish fifth again behind Kenteris.

But the progress of 22-year-old Malcolm has not been lost on the Olympic champion. While he says he fears nobody, Kenteris singled out Malcolm as a big threat for the future and acknowledged his talent.

He added: "He came to Edmonton with a (season's) best of 20.40secs and then he runs 20.08."

Malcolm stills shakes his head at the memories of the 200m final in Edmonton where he finished in a time of 20.22secs behind Kenteris' winning mark of 20.04secs. But the Welsh sprinter missed out on second place - and a silver medal - by just two hundredths of a second.

Kenteris and Malcolm will lock horns in this August's European Championships in Munich, straight after Manchester's Commonwealth Games, when the Eveswell flier will get a chance for revenge over the Greek.

He said: "We'll see what happens this summer after the Commonwealth Games. "I learned a lot from Edmonton, it was really hard to have run so well early on then come away with nothing. No personal best in the final and no medal. I've leaned a lot from that."

Malcolm runs this afternoon in the 200m and the 4x100m relay as Wales tackle England, Scotland, British Juniors, British Universities and the home side Loughborough University.
