CROSS Keys coach David Rees says all teams in Wales should play throughout international weekends and that the season should end in April.

The Wales Under-19s chief says 'it's crazy' that the season begins in mid-August and ends in mid-May when it is hard to motivate players.

He advocates playing on the morning of an international, at noon, on the Friday before or on the Sunday aftenoon.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's home game with Llandovery, he said: "Unless you are involved in promotion or relegation issues, it is difficult to keep players buoyant just before the end of the season.

"And the frightening thing is that next year we may have two extra teams in Division One. "I would definitely advocate all teams playing on international weekends, from the Premier Division to Division Seven.

"It happens in England and what it does is make you look at your squad make-up to cover all eventualities.

"To have breaks on international weekends and then extend the season to facilitate it is crazy.

"The season is already unbelievably long and before we know where we are we'll be back into pre-season training again."

Keys' aim is to win at least two of their remaining three games to finish in ninth or tenth. "Llandovery are a good side who travel better than they used to and, with nothing at stake for either side, perhaps it will a good match for the spectators," added Rees. Keys have left an open space in the back row for the match.
