NEWPORT County and Cwmbran Town will be looking to the skies this morning.

Both their matches are in doubt after heavy overnight rain and face pitch inspections today.

County's Dr Martens Premier League clash at Hednesford Town will be looked at 9am. Rain before last night in the Midlands had already put the game at Keys Park in serious doubt.

Travelling County fans are urged to call Hednesford on 01543 422870 before setting out on their journeys.

Meanwhile, County's neighbours Cwmbran were also waiting to see if their League of Wales clash with Aberystwyth will go ahead.

Match-day officals were due to make an inspection of the Cwmbran Stadium playing surface at around 8am.

But the chances of the game going ahead are rated as "very doubtful".

Locals leagues will also be affected with all Gwent Central League matches in the Pontypool area postponed.

Meanwhile, Charlton boss Alan Curbishley has played down speculation linking him with the vacant manager's job at Aston Villa.

Some quarters have suggested the Addicks boss is set for a return to the club he served as a player.

But Curbishley - who was also linked with the West Ham job over the summer - said: "I got involved in a lot of speculation last year, and I said to myself this morning that I really wasn't going to get involved in all that again.

"I'm just keeping my head down and getting on with things here.

"It's the same old thing, I should imagine Villa haven't got the slightest idea who their manager's going to be yet, what with it all being so sudden."
