BEDWAS wing Matthew Pizey hopes to increase his try tally to 15 by the end of the season and would like nothing better than to start the ball rolling against visitors Cross Keys tomorrow (2:30pm).

That's because his younger brother James, 20, is a Pandy Park performer and he would like to put one over on him.

"It's not every day you get to play against your brother," said Matthew, the pairs first ever clash coming at Cross Keys back in October when Bedwas won 22-17.

"Because of the age difference we haven't played together either, but it would be nice to do that one day.

"We get on well, we train together and there's a bit of friendly banter between us and I just hope we don't have to tangle too often."

Fleur-de-Lys were the first senior side Matthew, 25, played for before joining home club Bargoed, Rhymney for three years, followed by Blackwood.

"It didn't work for me at Blackwood. It's well known that their strength is their pack and I didn't see a lot of the ball," he said.

"So I went back to Rhymney and had two half decent games against Bedwas and they approached me to join them during the summer."

Since then Pizey has scored eight tries. "It's a reasonable amount and I'm happy with it, as I've missed a few games, but I'd like to get up to 15 by the end of the season," he said

"I've been really pleased with my progress and the progress of the team. I think we've surprised quite a few people.

"Apart from the top four or five, we've only lost one other game, though those defeats did knock our confidence a bit.

"But we're back on track now and on paper have a nice run of games to come before we meet all the top sides again at the end of the season.

"We simply want to finish as high as we can. A top half finish would have delighted us at the start of the season but now a top four or five place could be on and that would represent a marvellous achievement.

"And with the top sides having to visit us we will play a big part in deciding the title." Pizey expects a very tough match tomorrow and added: "Although Cross Keys haven't had a very good season by their standards, they have some excellent players, they are back to full strength and they will be giving it everything they've got."

Keys coach David Rees says his side need four more wins to avoid an end of the season relegation dogfight and is confident they can achieve that.

"It will be tough, but I'm confident the squad is good enough," said Rees. "We are beginning to play to a better level but are still a bit naive and failing to stick to the game plan.

"The pressure will be on us to perform on Saturday. Bedwas have got nothing to lose." Matthew Pizey returns after a bout of 'flu for Bedwas tomorrow with his brother James at full back for Keys.

Simon Jones (scrum half), Lee Tomlins (hooker) and skipper Matthew Lewis (flanker) are also back for Bedwas while Morgan Lovell and Matthew McCarthy (centres), Sean Marshall (wing) and half backs Gethin Worgan and new signing Andy Boyd are among the Keys changes.
