LANELLI'S veteran wing Wayne Proctor is the surprise call up to the Wales team to face world champions Australia at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday.

He won the last of his 38 caps against Zimbabwe in 1988. Coach Graham Henry has preferered Proctor to Rhys Williams while Jamie Robinson and Spencer John also come in because of injuries to Allan Bateman and Ebbw Vale's Iestyn Thomas.

And Newport centre Andy Marinos moves a step closer to winning his first cap, named as a replacement.

Ebbw Vale prop Iestyn Thomas, centre Allan Bateman and wing Anthony Sullivan all had to leave the field and are ruled out of Sunday's clash.

John, Robinson and Williams were the replacements against Tonga. Wales' injury list among the backs has reached astronomic proportions, with six wings alone ruled out -- Dafydd James, Shane Williams, Sullivan, Craig Morgan, Nick Walne and Mark Jones.

In the centre Mark Taylor is still out while Scott Gibbs has retired from international rugby. Marinos has enjoyed a rapid rise recently, making the Wales A team, then being appointed its captain and he is now set to be on the Wales bench.

Only last week after the Wales A-Tonga match he said he was targeting the inside centre berth for Wales.

Apart from Marinos, veteran Llanelli wing Wayne Proctor, ahead of Gareth Wyatt, and Neath prop Jones have been called in.
