A supermarket chain has something a little different on its "shelves" - jobs. Morrison, which is poised to open its new store at Rogerstone, is staging a jobs fair this week.

The retailer has almost completed its store which has been built on a seven-and-a-half-acre site alongside the A467 bypass.

The 70,000 sq ft store is the first of two being opened in South Wales - the other is at Barry. Bradford-based Morrison, the fifth-largest chain in the UK, is creating 350 jobs in Gwent.

The new store with a 201-seat cafe-restaurant, petrol station and 463-space car park is due to open in November.

A recruitment event is being held at Risca Rugby Club from July 26 to 30. Morrison says it has already recruited fifty management jobs and now needs to recruit 300 additional workers. It is looking for a range of staff from checkout operators, cafe staff, bakers and butchers. Regional personnel manager Gail Roberts said: "We have had a lot of interest in the job opportunities here but this event is the first step towards actually filling the positions available."
