BOTTOM club Buxton travel to Newport tomorrow night (7pm) to face third-placed Mavericks knowing a win will be enough to take them to the top of the Conference League.

Mavericks have a good chance of taking two valuable league points from the meeting and, currently on eight points, they can leap-frog Boston who are level with leaders Sheffield on nine points at the top of the table.

Newport give home debuts to Simon Walker and Daniel Hodson, but after Monday's comprehensive 68-22 away defeat at the hands of new leaders Sheffield Prowlers, the Mavericks have a chance to get their confidence back.

Promising youngster Rob Finlow (pictured) top-scored in Yorkshire with 12 points, while debutants Hodson and Walker weighed-in with eight and three points respectively.

Now the pair ride Hayley Stadium for the first time as the home side face the Buxton Hit-Men with Newport skipper Scott Pegler missing and the rider replacement system will cover his absence.

Buxton also operate the rider replacement option for their number one heat leader James Mann and included in the Hit-Men's side is former Newport Wasp Craig Taylor. Having ridden for Wasps in 2000, Taylor makes a welcome return to the venue and will be riding alongside one of the most famous surnames in British speedway.

Teenager Chris Collins is the son of 1976 world champion Peter, who was recently awarded the MBE for his services to the sport.

Chris is the nephew of Les and Neil and cousin of Aidan - all current British Premier League performers in their own right.

Chris Collins previously rode at Hayley Stadium on June 10 in the Welsh Open when, in a baptism of fire for the youngster, he faced such illustrious opposition Grand Prix stars such as Australian duo Jason Crump and Todd Wiltshire plus Sweden's Niklas Klingberg.

Chris Collins failed to score from six rides, but showed enough promise to suggest he will soon follow in the tyre tracks of his famous family.

Third-placed Mavericks are also in league action on Saturday night when they travel to face Rye House Rockets (7pm).
