A NEWPORT man is taking the love of his company to our TV screens, by appearing in an advert for them.

Andrew Waters, aged 44, of Adelaide Road, Newport, is set to hit television screens within the next month, in the RAC's latest campaign. Service patrol workers are featured in the ads giving driving tips, and Mr Waters' advice shows drivers how to avoid back pain.

He won the part after an audition that saw more than 100 fellow Welsh workers competing with him.

And his prize was to spend a day getting very wet in the rainy Brecon Beacons.

Mr Waters said: "Making it was quite intense - it was nine hours of constant filming, driving up and down the Beacons.

"The crew were very nice but everyone got a bit wet, and I kept getting told off by the make-up people for going out in the rain.

"They've told me it will be ready in about four weeks, so it should be out soon."

Mr Waters has worked for the RAC for 20 years but says he would not rule out a career change.

He said: "It's very rewarding work because I like helping people, but I wouldn't rule out changing careers to work in adverts!" A spokeswoman for the RAC said Mr Waters was chosen for his strong local knowledge.

She said: "We wanted people who knew the patch, who were very keen to do it and media friendly."

And while Mr Waters didn't get paid for his starring role, he said the experience made it all worth it.
