NEWPORT County boss Peter Beadle has challenged his side to remain undefeated until the end of the season ahead of a tricky trip to Welling tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).

County's bid to clinch Conference South survival has been gathering pace, four successive victories and four straight clean-sheets have taken them out of the drop-zone for the first time in months.

With just five games remaining this season, County look a decent bet to survive with home games still to come against Farnborough and Thurrock and visits to Histon and Cambridge City . Boss Beadle has been hugely impressed with the up-turn in fortunes at the club and has given his players huge praise, but now he is challenging them to maintain their momentum.

Welling are on the brink of getting themselves into the play-offs and have been beaten only once at home this season, the joint best record in the league along with leaders Weymouth, who thrashed County 4-0 in March.

With Welling two points from getting into the top five, County can expect a tough contest, but Beadle is remarkably confident.

"We can get a result at Welling, hopefully another victory but certainly a draw, we are more than capable," he said.

"I am full of pride and admiration over the way the players have raised their game in recent weeks, it is lovely to do as I did after the Hayes game on Wednesday, sit at home with a glass of wine looking at the league table!

"But the big thing for us is to keep the run going and I think we can, we have very tough games coming up, particularly tomorrow and the trip to Cambridge, but I believe in the players.

"I have challenged them to complete the season unbeaten and I really think they are capable of doing it."

Beadle will be without midfielder Lee Jenkins for the game and if a scan reveals more damage to the medial knee ligament he damaged earlier this season, his campaign will be over.

Beadle explained: "The initial injury with Jenks (which occurred during a league clash with Eastleigh in January) saw the muscle come away slightly from the bone.

"We are hoping the new injury (picked up at the end of the Sutton clash last week) isn't so severe and are waiting on a scan, but if it's a similar injury obviously we're unlikely to have him available for the remainder of the season."

Beadle has a fully-fit squad to choose from with the exception of Jenkins, meaning midfielder Gary Fisken is again likely to be a substitute with Geraint Bater replacing Andy Legg, who has left the club to take up the role of assistant manager at Peterborough.

Legg returned for County in Wednesday's crucial win over Hayes as a gesture of goodwill, travelling down from his Nottingham home and Beadle believes he made a big impact.

"I can only say nice things about Leggy, he's a magnificent professional and produced a couple of decent and important performances for us. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best for the future."

Legg commented: "I wouldn't have played for any team other than Newport as I mentioned before and I was only too happy to come down to help out for the Hayes game. Peterborough is a huge opportunity for me, but I wish County all the best for the rest of the season and hope and believe they will stay up."

Beadle has given the board of directors a list of players he wants to be offered contracts for next season.
