TICKETS are still available for a glamorous ball marking the 30th anniversary of a Gwent hospice charity.

As well as a wonderful night out, those attending will be helping to support the work of St David's Foundation and its round-the-clock specialist services.

St David's needs to raise nearly £5 million a year and relies on fundraising events such as the ball as well as the efforts of individuals like Joan Bevan.

Mrs Bevan joined the organisation at its inception in 1979 and, at the age of 91, is still a stalwart.

In June she raised more than £400 for the charity.

Chief executive Emma Saysell paid tribute to her and other long-standing supporters "who show everyone just what can be achieved with a little graft and a lot of soul".

Mrs Saysell is keen that as many people as possible should have the opportunity to join the celebrations at the ball which is being held at the Celtic Manor Resort and will include dancing, entertainment, a charity auction, grand raffle and fun casino.

"This is a gorgeous occasion. There are always a few surprises and it is a great night out whether with a large group of friends and colleagues or just as a couple.

"But although everybody has a wonderful time, there is a very serious side to these revelries - we need all the funds we can get to provide our leading edge palliative care services to people in their own home."

She also pointed out that while several hundred people would be dining and dancing, they would never forget that 100 St David's nurses would be caring for 970 patients and their families at the same time.

Each ticket costs £75. Contact Emma Saysell on 01633 270980 or email emma.saysell@stdavidsfoundation.co.uk
