GWENT rugby fans will be able to watch Wales’ Six Nations clash against England in 3D during a special screening at Newport’s Cineworld.

The match on February 6 will be filmed using 3D cameras and shown live in 40 Odeon and Cineworld cinemas across the UK, including screens at the Cineworld in Newport Retail Park on Spytty Road.

It is hoped the screenings, announced yesterday by England's team sponsor O2, will give thousands of fans who can’t get to Twickenham the chance to get close to the action.

Tickets will go on general sale to fans on January 29 with adult tickets priced at £12.50, but 02 mobile phone customers will be able to snap up their tickets four days earlier on January 25 by texting 3D to 2020.

Rugby Football Union’s operations manager Paul Vaughan said: "I hope rugby fans will pack cinemas across the country to support the team and mark this milestone.”

The England v Ireland game will also be screened in 3D in some cinemas on February 27.

The move to screen sporting events in three dimensions comes as 3D TV is tipped to be one of the most popular gadgets of 2010, with 3D technology expected to become a regular feature in people’s living rooms as well as cinemas.
