THE Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama will be performing a Ben Elton production at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, during May and early June. Popcorn will be directed by Martin Houghton.

A Hollywood director, notorious for making violent movies and blamed for creating gun-toting mayhem, is kidnapped by a pair of homicidal maniacs on a killing spree prompted by his films.

Ben Elton's Popcorn is a fast, funny and stylish exploration into the power of the media and society's refusal to accept responsibility for its actions.

This production will be starring Risca's Sarah Jayne Hopkins who is playing the part of Farrah Delimetri. Sarah said: "I am very much looking forward to playing this interesting character. All my comic timing skills will be put to the test along with the slightly darker side of human nature." Sarah, 23, has already appeared in a number of their productions, most recently Stephen Soundheim's Company when she played all singing and dancing Sarah to great critical acclaim.

To date she has represented RWCMD in the 2006 Carlton Hobbs Competition in London and successfully won Best Duologue and was commended in the Outstanding Solo category. As well as her acting skills, Sarah is a mezzo-soprano and has appeared in numerous musicals and even had her own concert. She is frequently a guest singer with Risca Male Voice Choir.

Popcorn can be seen in Venue 2 at The Sherman on Friday, May 26, and Saturday, May 27, Tuesday, May 30, and Saturday, June 3. Evening times are 8pm and Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
