EBBW Vale is just one day away from the biggest event in its history as the Eisteddfod prepares to roll into town.

Over the next eight days, more than 160,000 people will flood into the Valleys town to enjoy music, arts science, performance as part of the greatest show in Wales.

More than 4,000 volunteers and 250 stewards will be on hand to help make the first Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale for 52 years a big success and event organisers said all hotels in the area and most Bed and Breakfasts are booked up.

The 200 acres at The Works, once home to the Corus Steelworks have now been transformed to house Wales' premier celebration of its native tongue.

Only Boys Aloud will kick-off proceedings with a launch concert tomorrow alongside Only Men Aloud at 8pm followed by eight days of activities, concluding on August 7.

It costs around £3 million to stage and is expected to bring between £6-8 million to the local economy.

As part of a campaign to get people in Blaenau Gwent to show their colours in the build-up to the Eisteddfod, more than 21 miles of bunting has been handed out to homes and businesses.

Big names on the site include BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens who will perform in the Maes B tent on August and Will Young is singing in the Pink Pavilion on August 8.
