NEWPORT is set to host the first ever Wales Open Crazy Golf Championships this year.

Businesses in the city are being invited to put forward teams of two players to take part in the event on September 3, which will be played on what is being described as the world's finest crazy golf course.

The nine-hole course, built by the newly established Crazy Golf Company, includes more than £10,000 worth of astro turf and a scaled down replica of a hole from the Celtic Manor Resort - home of the 2010 Ryder Cup tournament.

The course, which took three years to develop will also feature a selection of never before seen ramps, transitions and pinball machines, which Dave Lovatt of the Crazy Golf Company says is bringing the activity into the 21st century.

“No one will have seen anything quite like it,” he said.

Entry fee is £5 per pair and teams must register by September 1 by contacting The Riverfront Box Office on 01633 656679.

The course is part of the Big Splash event taking place on the banks of the River Usk and at the Riverfront Theatre all this month, and will be open to the public from 11am until 6pm from August 28 to September 5.
