A MUM and dad have been so moved by the treatment given to their prematurely born son they’re going to raise money for the Royal Gwent Hospital unit which is looking after him.

Michael Woods, 24, of Rogerstone, is to organise a charity football tournament for the Special Care Baby Unit caring for his son Max Woods, who was born on July 7.

His mum Sarah Hayden, 27, gave birth to him 12 weeks prematurely under caesarean section. Max was taken straight to the SCBU, and has since grown from 2lbs and 12oz to 4lbs 10oz.

Mr Woods, who said Max is doing well but is not yet ready come home, said he was grateful for the care he is being given in the hospital.

He said he is hoping to organise a charity football tournament in Lliswerry, with profits from the five a side competition going to the unit.

“The nurses and staff there are excellent,” said Mr Woods. “The aim is to give them a bit of money back.”

Details of the tournament will be announced later in the year.
