A NEWPORT councillor will take part in a charity run in memory of her sister.

Caerleon councillor Angela Jones will complete the 5 kilometre event at Tredegar Park on September 18 in aid of Newport-based charity St David’s Foundation. She will be joined by her mum Muriel Nash, 69, daughter Beth Jones, 18, sister Julie Brown, 44, and niece Molly Brown, 12.

The family will take on the challenge in memory of Cllr Jones’ sister Gillian Nash, who died in 2004 aged just 32 after a two-year battle with Non-Hodgkinsons Lymphoma.

Cllr Jones, who worked in the charity’s patient services department around ten years ago, said hospice staff do a outstanding job and had fulfilled her sister’s dying wish to be at home when she died.

She said taking part in the walk was the family’s way of giving something back as well as raising awareness of the disease.

The group will also be joined by friends and staff at The Red Lion pub, where Cllr Jones is landlady.

Women of all abilities can take part in the event. Entry is £10, for more information telephone 01633 271364.

Anyone who wishes to sponsor the group can fill in a form at the Red Lion Pub on Backhall Street, Caerleon.
