NEWPORT rappers Goldie Lookin Chain and the city's mayor are gearing up for this weekend's celebrity charity golf tournament.

The event is being held to enable local residents without Ryder Cup tickets to see some golf and raise cash for Newport mayor, Bill Langsford, charity, Tenovus.

Olympic sprinters Jamie Baulch and Matt Elias, indie band Super Furry Animals, rock musicians The Automatic, Torchwood star Gareth David Lloyd and Paralympic gold medallist swimmer Liz Johnson are among the celebrities taking part in the tournament at Caerleon Golf Club, from 9am until 12.30pm on Saturday.

GLC and Voice magazine have organised the event, to which entry is free but donations can be given to Tenovus.

A concert will follow at the Newport Centre, featuring GLC, 2 Rude and Dirty Goods, at 6.45pm.

Tickets for the concert are available for £5 by calling 01633 656757.
