POLICE are probing the death of a young father-of-one after his body was found in his Newport home.

The death of 24-year-old Tony Singh is being treated as suspicious as police continue their inquiries into the cause.

Friends yesterday described Mr Singh as "a great dad" who was fun-loving and outgoing.

Mr Singh was found dead at his flat in Bryngwyn Road on Monday evening and police are still trying to establish the cause of death - a spokeswoman said it is being treated as suspicious at this time.

Mourners gathered outside his flat yesterday morning and by lunchtime, there were more than a dozen bunches of flowers laid against the garden wall as several cars pulled up outside his home to let mourners lay their tributes.

Friend Chantelle Arthur, 22, from Malpas Road said he was a "great dad" to four-year-old Shanyra Seivwright, his daughter with long-term girlfriend Esther Seivwright, who the couple had christened in July.

"He'll be sadly missed," she added.

Shanice Williams, 18, from the Gaer has known Mr Singh for five years and affectionately described him as a "gym freak" who loved working out.

She said: "Everybody knows him and no-one has got anything bad to say about him, he was always smiling and happy. He was a popular guy who had a lot of friends and made people laugh."

Some of the floral tributes outside his home read: "RIP Tony, gone but not forgotten, Ayesha," "RIP Tony, thinking of you," and "RIP Tony, you will never be forgotten."

The results of the post mortem held yesterday afternoon were not known as the Argus went to press.
