ALMOST 900 people in Newport were caught watching television without a valid licence in the first half of of this year, according to results published today.
Half-year results reveal there were 895 licence dodgers in Newport in the first six months of 2006.
Newport is the third highest area in Wales for licence evasion, behind Swansea and Cardiff.
Caerphilly was sixth with 342 people caught failing to pay their licence and Cwmbran was 10th with 218 dodgers.
In the whole of last year, 1,922 people were caught in Newport, with 590 in Caerphilly and 473 in Cwmbran.
