TWO Newport students are looking forward to having their film screened to more than 2,000 people after it has been shortlisted for an award at a British Film Institute festival.

Craig Devine, 20 and Glyn Davies, 21, who are both in their final year at the University of Wales, Newport, studying film and video, created the short film 'This is the life' as part of a second year university project.

The eight-minute film tells the story of a child adjusting to his father being released from prison.

The pair entered the film into various festivals including the BFI's Future Films Festival where it has now been nominated for the prize of 'best short fiction'.

The festival, which will be held at the Southbank cinema on February 12 and 13, is a chance for the next generation of UK filmmakers to show off their work.

Mr Devine said: "We're really happy about it and it's great to have our film showed to so many people."
