A NEWPORT woman who has undergone four kidney transplants set off on a challenge to ride across seven transporter bridges in Europe yesterday.
Setting off from the Newport Transporter Bridge, Maureen Hendon, 49, and her partner Robert Reese, 52, will be riding his BMW bike on the 2,000 mile trip across Europe to raise funds for Kidney Wales Foundation.
The trip will see them ride up to the transporter bridges in Warrington and Middlesbrough before catching the ferry to Amsterdam and travelling to Germany to ride across the bridges in Rendsburg and Osten before going to France's Rochefort bridge.
The final stop of the trip, which is expected to last 10 days, will be the bridge in Bilbao, Spain.
Ms Hendon was diagnosed with kidney failure 17 years ago but has undergone the life-saving transplants and now wants to raise awareness and money for research to be carried out.
The couple will be taking information about organ donation with them on the trip to give out to people and to promote the charity.
