ASSEMBLED classmates, teachers and parents held their breath as the pressure of a Royal wedding got to six-year-old groom Max Coghlan.

He put his hand to his mouth, conscious all eyes were on him. But, luckily, after a nervy moment, the youngster was able to compose himself and there were huge cheers as he tied the knot with Amalie Churchill in Glasllwch Primary's very own Royal wedding.

While it will be the eyes of the world, not just those from a suburb of Newport watching Prince William marry sweetheart Kate Middleton later this month, youngsters had a taste of the excitement that will be generated by the event.

After being given their own special role, pupils cheered the wedding party as it made its way through the yard and down to nearby Trinity Methodist Church on Thursday.

Just as Prince William and best man Prince Harry will be waiting nervously at Westminster Abbey, Max with best man Max Petfield, page boy Joe Nippers and minister-for-the-day Ben Edwards, waited before the bride along with bridesmaids Hadiqua Hussain, Nancy Knapman, Aleesha Shasi and Olivia Frost made their way in.

In total, 28 year seven pupils took part in the festivities, throwing confetti, before they returned to the school's outdoor story chair area, where there was bunting, wedding cake and a picnic reception.

Headmistress Chris Jacskon said this marks the start of the school's Royal wedding celebrations.

She said: "We tried to incorporate as much of the Royal wedding protocol as possible, so they could esperience it. The children made invitations, place mats and decorations. We are now planning a street party for when we come back after Easter."
