PEOPLE planning to organise street parties to celebrate the royal wedding are being urged not to be put off by myths that they cannot do so because of health and safety.
The Health and Safety Executive has published new information and a cartoon lampooning those who would stand in the way of communities celebrating together - pre-empting any attempts to inhibit celebrations with what is calls "unnecessary bureaucracy and red tape."
Minister for health and safety Chris Grayling said there was no reason for anyone to ban such celebrations on the grounds of health and safety.
He said: "We are restoring common sense to our health and safety system, ensuring it is there to protect people at work not penalise people at leisure."
Director for the HSE in Wales, Terry Rose said volunteers should feel confident to organise celebrations, taking simple measures based on common sense without having to worry about obligations under health and safety law.
