IN Abergavenny almost 200 neighbours came together to celebrate the Royal Wedding at two street parties.

Ninety residents in Dan y Deri transformed the street into a sea of red, white and blue with streams of bunting and Union Jack flags bearing the royal couples faces.

Children played badminton and enjoyed face painting in a tee-pee, a buffet and barbecue whilst the adults watched the ceremony on a television in a gazebo and toasted the couple with a glass of champagne.

Organiser and resident Colita Dainton said preparations began at 7am this morning neighbours Christine Smith and Pat Dunstan, who have lived in the street for 34 years, said: “There is a fantastic atmosphere and its lovely to see everyone come together.”

Residents in St Helen’s Road draped flags and bunting across the street and enjoyed a barbecue, bouncy castle and competitions including fancy dress and cake-making and had a go at craft making, bingo and a raffle.

Organiser and resident, Paul Taylor said: “It is great to see everyone coming together as a community and contribute to the event.”
