A new £1.1million boat built in Newport was launched on the River Usk.

Three workers from Cardiff Bay Cruises worked on the 'Enterprise', for around 19 months in a workshop in Albany Street.

The boat will be used to provide leisure trips between the city and the likes of Cardiff and Bristol.

The craft, which is 21 metres long, was launched on Monday and given a trial run down the River Usk.

It will now be used throughout the summer and for parts of the spring and autumn to provide the trips for locals and visitors.

Cardiff Bay Cruises owner Steve Woodward, who also runs Cardiff's aquabus service, said the boat was one of the first ones to be built in the city since the 1960s.

He chose to build it in Gwent after growing up in Newport and due to the city having a suitable place near water to build the boat.

Mr Woodward said: "We are delighted with the end result. It will be used for most of the year dependent on the weather and tide.

An official naming ceremony is expected to be held later this month in Cardiff.
