A NEW campaign to tackle fly-tipping in Torfaen is being launched today.
The Total Focus Week campaign, which runs until Friday, is part of a wider £25 million project targeting flytippers in the South Wales Valleys.
Around 30 representatives from different agencies such as Bron Afon Housing, Communities First and Keep Wales Tidy, will be working on the project.
This comes as new figures show that 41,750 cases of flytipping were recorded across Wales, costing Welsh tax payers more than £2 million to clean up.
The campaign is part of the £25 million Valleys Regional Park project which also involves Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent councils and is being funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
Activities in Torfaen this week include a litterpick outside McDonald’s in NewInn, a clean up and improvement works to a footpath connecting to the Pontymoel Basin canal and a clean up of flytipped tyres on the Cefn Crib Common.
Advice will also be given to builders and sole traders on waste carrier licences during a visit to Travis Perkins Builders’ Merchants in Pontypool.
To report an incident of flytipping, call Torfaen council on 01495 762 200.
