THE parents of a severely disabled boy say it is their dream to get married while they still have their young son with them.

Five-year-old Jake Brown, from Swffryd, has suffered from multiple medical conditions since birth, including cerebral palsy, epilepsy, scoliosis and a heart murmur.

He requires 24-hour care, is regularly in pain, and doctors have warned Jake’s parents Darren Brown, 35, and Sadie Kinsey, 39, that he won’t make it to his teenage years.

But the couple say, to them, their son is just like any other five-year-old, and it would mean the world to have him as a page boy at their wedding.

The couple, who have entered the Argus’ ‘Win A Wedding’ competition, have been engaged for six years, but say they have not had time to plan or save for their big day because they have been focussed on Jake’s care.

Jake, who attends Pen-y- Cwm Special School, is confined to a wheelchair, and can be in hospital up to four times a week.

Miss Kinsey gave up work to become his full-time carer, and two children’s nurses stay in the couple’s home six nights a week.

Jake has a tracheotomy fitted because epileptic fits can cause breathing problems, and his scoliosis – curved spine – can cause spasms.

She said: “It is very difficult.

You get days where you see him in agony and you just don’t know what to do for him. You have just got to cwtch him a lot.”

Next month Jake will go into hospital to have an implant fitted underneath his skin, which will slowly release medication to relax his spasms, but even this positive step carries risks.

Mr Brown said: “He has to go under general anaesthetic, and we are always warned about the danger there is in his chances of coming out of it.”

The couple said they would love to get married soon with their son at their side.

Miss Kinsey said: “There’s so much pressure but, when you have a disabled child, you become stronger together and it would mean the world to us to get married while he’s still here.

“Wewould love to see him in his page boy suit.

“Those will be the memories that we can treasure forever.”
