FIRMS in South Wales have stepped up to help build a new outdoor classroom for pupils at a Newport school.

Toyota World in Maesglas, Monmouthshire Timber Supplies and NW Building Services donated time, materials and skills to build the outdoor learning facility at Duffryn Infants School for its Rainbow class.

The garden was designed by Oxfam livelihoods workers Jo Short and Claudine Morgan, who worked with teachers from the school, as well as pupils from the Rainbow class.

The firms got involved after Duffryn Community Link development officer Bob Barry got in touch with Amanda Binner-Vaughan at Toyota World.

Mr Barry said Neil and Greg Williams, of NW Building Services, worked their socks off to build the garden last weekend with the help of local parents, and that around £2,000 worth of work and materials was donated.

He added: “This was a team effort and I’d like to thank all who helped make this happen.”
