WALES’ recent rugby successes were matched by a Tintern couple whose talents were noticed by Londoners at a wine tasting evening.

Members of the Royal Thames Yacht Club, Knightsbridge, tried wines from rugby playing nations to coincide with the tournament, including England, Australia and New Zealand, as one of four wine-tasting evenings held throughout the year.

Sampling the wines blind, the group voted through their favourite in each round, with the overall winner coming from Tintern’s Parva Farm Vineyard.

Organiser Victoria Aldwinckle read about Colin and Judith Dudley’s Bacchus 2009 receiving a silver medal in the International Wine Challenge earlier this year, and decided it would be perfect for the club’s members to try.

She said: “They were absolutely amazed such a highquality wine comes from Wales, as they were convinced it was Italian.

“Judith and Colin were really helpful in helping us choose the right Welsh wine.”

A few cases may soon be on their travels to London because several members were keen to have their own supply of the Monmouthshire wine, Ms Aldwinckle added.
