FOOTBALLERS took to the field in Newport to show racism the red card this week with a day-long tournament.
Bettws Communities First joined forces with anti-racism charity Show Racism the Red Card for the tournament at Bettws Civil Service Club.
Teams from Bettws, Gaer, Alway, Somerton, Ringland, Duffryn, Malpas, Caerleon and Pill all took part with Bettws winning the tournament cup and Ringland the second place shield.
Caren White, Bettws Communities First co-ordinator, said: “The event was planned with the aim of bringing together a very diverse population of young people and to showthe importance sport can have in bringing all these unique cultures together in unity.”
The event was funded by £8,000 received from the Newport Council community safety partnership cohesion award, which is also being used to fund educational provision in local schools across Newport.
