POLICE and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the death of a labourer who fell from the roof of a Crumlin factory.

Lance Davies, 46, fell to his death on Thursday while working as a roofing subcontractor at engineering firm Senior Flexonics, on the Penyfan Industrial Estate.

Mr Davies, a father of six from Gelli in the Rhondda, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gwent Police are now investigating the incident with the Health and Safety Executive.

Senior Plc, who own Senior Flexonics, said it would also be conducting its own investigation.

Mr Davies’ partner Laura Davies described him as a loving partner, fantastic father and good friend who loved to laugh and joke.

She said he was a hard worker who would go out at all hours and do a variety of jobs to provide for his family.

She added: “He was so looking forward to a big family Christmas. It is tragic he will not be around to see his children grow up and make him proud.”

Gwent Police said it received a call at around 2pm on December 15 reporting that a man had fallen while working on the roof of a factory at Penyfan Industrial Estate.

The ambulance service also attended, but Mr Davies was pronounced dead at the scene.

Senior Flexonics is part of international manufacturing company Senior Plc, which makes products for the aerospace and industrial markets.

Chief executive of Senior Plc Mark Rollins said the firm was saddened to learn of Mr Davies’ death.

He added: “Our sincere condolences and sympathies go to his family.

Health and safety is of paramount importance to Senior and we are conducting a full internal reviewinto the tragic accident.”
