AN 11-YEAR-OLD boy was airlifted to hospital today after falling while walking on Sugar Loaf Mountain, Abergavenny.

The youngster suffered serious cuts and a possible fractured leg after falling into a rock in deep ferns.

The Wales Air Ambulance and 14 members of the Longtown mountain rescue team were called to St Mary's Vale and the boy was flown to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny.

Members of the mountain rescue team had to carry the boy to the waiting helicopter nearby as it was unable to land due to the steep ground.
