MONMOUTHSHIRE council could spend £72,257 on improving fostering and care in partnership with five other authorities.
A report entitled ‘A Shared Lives Collaborative’, due to go before Cabinet on January 4, suggests more individually tailored services could be applied to those who need them.
Shared Lives, which the council already spends £48,673 on per year, gives support, including accommodation, and the report says this includes fostering.
From April 2012 to April 2015, Monmouthshire plans to join forces with Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Newport and Torfaen councils to offer more viable and less institutional options, where people will be cared for in a family setting up to adulthood, and better services for those with learning disabilities.
The report says the proposals aim for people to live healthy and productive lives within the community.
