TWO burglaries at supermarkets in Pontllanfraith and Thornhill, Cardiff, on Christmas Eve are believed to be linked, police said yesterday.

Gwent Police and South Wales Police are appealing for information after three men broke into the Sainsbury’s store on Newbridge Industrial Estate in Pontllanfraith around 8.45pm on December 24.

They stole a range of electrical goods, including three Samsung 40 inch LCD HD TVs, an Emotion 23 inch digital TV, a Sharp 22 inch LCD TV, a Toshiba 19 inch HDready TV and DVD player, an LG 19 inch TV, a Toshiba Bluray DVD player and a Sony iPod speaker dock.

At around 10pm, it is thought the same three men broke into a Sainsbury’s store on Excalibur Drive, Thornhill, and stole three televisions – a Samsung 40 inch and two 32 inch LCD TVs.

On both occasions the men left the stores using a waiting vehicle, thought to be a silver saloon and possibly a Vauxhall Vectra. Neither burglary lasted more than five minutes.

One of the men was wearing a balaclava and gloves, one had his hood up and another was wearing a grey woollen hat.

DC Steve Colston, from South Wales Police, said the stolen goods could have been given away as Christmas presents or sold by the burglars.

Anyone with information should contact Gwent Police on 101, Rumney CID on 02920 774233 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
