HEALTH bosses are hoping that the final service to be moved to Gwent’s newest hospital, Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, at Ystrad Mynach, will be in place by the end of February.
An MRI unit for the hospital was a late addition to the project, which has cost more than £170 million, and consequently the scanning service for patients in the Caerphilly county borough area remains at the otherwise closed down Ystrad Mynach Hospital, across the road from the new hospital.
The newhospital resulted in the closure of other hospitals across Caerphilly – including Caerphilly District Miners’ Hospital – during November and December, as services were transferred.
Work is continuing on the new unit, but it will be several weeks before it is ready to take its first patients.
