A CWMBRAN drama group celebrates its 25th anniversary with a production of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Llanyrafon Drama Group was founded to bring together a group of predominantly younger people with a desire to perform. The first production, A Variety Show, took place in 1987, and during the last 25 years the group has performed three further variety shows, seven plays and 19 pantomimes.

Jack and the Beanstalk can be seen on tomorrow (Friday 13) at 7pm, Saturday, at 2pm and 7pm, and January 20, at 7pm, and January 21, at 2pm and 7pm at Llanyrafon Methodist Church, Cwmbran.

Tickets, priced £5, can be obtained from the Box Office on 01633 485432.

The main aim of the group has always been to produce good quality family entertainment for the local community at a reasonable price.

For many people, acting with the group has been their first time treading the boards. Some have gone on to perform with bigger groups and a few are now acting professionally.

More than 250 people have been involved with the group during its history, covering all aspects of the theatre world – acting, music, sound and lighting, backstage and front of house.

The group rehearses and performs at Llanyrafon Methodist Church and is hoping to arrange a reunion later in the year to mark the anniversary.
