GREAT raconteur and best selling author Howard Marks is coming to the Newport Centre this month for an evening of anecdotes and fun.

Marks’ international smash hit autobiography Mr Nice made the Kenfig Hill man a literary star.

The 1996 book was adapted into a film two years ago starring Rhys Ifans as the lead.

Described by the Daily Mail as “the most sophisticated drugs baron of all time”, Marks worked with the British Secret Service and was connected with the Mafia, IRA, MI6 and CIA.

As well as writing a monthly column for Loaded for five years he has written features for The Times, Observer, Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard, Time Out, GQ, and the Guardian.

A regular on the festival and talk-show scene, he is a campaigner for the legalisation of cannabis.

He will recount details from his colourful life when he comes to Newport on Friday, January 27.

Tickets to see him are priced £15 and are available from www.seetickets.com and from the Newport Centre box office on 01633 656757.
